Profiles of La Sirena's Crew (mix of canon and headcanon - Spoilers for Star Trek: Picard season 1)

Cristóbal Rios and his Holo-Crew

Rules

RED ALERT:
This blog will have triggering content. It will also have spoilers for Star Trek: Picard and any other new Star Trek shows that come out (Discovery, Lower Decks, Strange New Worlds, Section 31, Prodigy, any others, and of course for the old ones, but can those really be called spoilers anymore?) – But I mostly keep that content on my personal/fanblog @the-plural-of-cris-is-crises
Warning: There are some vague spoilers for Star Trek: Picard in the Trigger Warnings sectionContent Warnings:
- Mun does not have any triggers or squicks that need to be tagged
- I tag triggers as “#trigger tw” like “#suicide tw”
- Things that are squicks, not triggers (trigger is specifically a term for people who have been professionally diagnosed with a mental illness where the term is applicable, like PTSD) will be tagged as "#squick cw" like "spiders cw" ("cw" for "content warning")
- Cris has been diagnosed with Post-Traumatic Dysphoria, also known as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder or PTSD. There will be times when this is mentioned and when he shows signs of it. I try to portray it accurately.
There will be mentions of:
- Suicide
- Murder
- Self-hatred
- Alcohol and other substance abuses (Cris doesn’t really use drugs but a close friend of his, Raffi, does and this will be mentioned. Cris does smoke tobacco through cigars and he drinks alcohol excessively sometimes)
- PTSD-flashbacks, PTSD-related nightmares and other PTSD-related symptoms such as dissociation and dysphoria
- Occasional verbal abuse directed towards his holograms who look like him as an expression of his self-hatred; this isn't usually that extreme, though.
- War; I do headcanon that Cris was involved in the Dominion War towards the beginning of his Starfleet career, so there might be mentions of that, and the Mirror Universe version of Cris is involved in the Terran Rebellion against the Klingon/Cardassian alliance. That verse also has mentions of rape/non-con and dub-con as well as slavery, as Cris was a Terran slave to a Klingon master who also used him sexually. This is not uncommon for the mirror universe.
- Dark themes are very present.
- Blood, gore, and sensitive topics will be found on this blog. For example, one of my roleplay partners plays a character who was originally from the Mirror Universe from around Archer's time but is now in the Prime universe at Picard's time. He was a prisoner of war and viciously tortured by the Tal Shiar and was forced into being a spy for the Romulans and he has severe PTSD from it. He now works for the Tal Shiar in the Prime Universe, but is undercover as Starfleet. There will be mentions of torture, physical abuse, emotional abuse and manipulation, mutilation (whipped viciously with an electric whip, castrated, amputated his own finger, surgical abuse of removing his Vulcan under-eyelid, beaten by a superior officer, etc. with brutal scarring remaining on his body from most of this), murder, suicide/suicidal thoughts/attempts/ideation, self-harm, self-hatred, some masochistic kinks and other dark themes in threads with @ltfreckles, previously "plaktow-ed" (with my threads being tagged as "plaktowed" without the hyphen because the hyphen sometimes messes tags up), then "ihlonhae," then "assasenach," then "freckledliberty." I try to tag the threads that have extreme content.
- Other content warning: Canon-typical cursing in both English and Spanish, including Chilean-specific slang curse words
- Potential Squick Warning: Sort of self-cest, but not really, not even actually clone-cest or whatever, but implications of characters having romantic feelings for other characters who have an identical face as them, with Emil to Enoch and Enoch to Rios in threads with @tongowheels’s Enoch (previously "ncthingstars").
Disclaimer:
I am not Latina myself but I find all cultures fascinating and studying cultures and languages is my passion. I am minoring in Spanish in college right now, but I can read and understand it better than I can write and speak it, so the Spanish I use will not always be perfect. I have done research into Chilean-specific slang, vocabulary, and culture though. Cris's culture is very important to him and I have been doing a lot of research into Latino and specifically Chilean culture for this blog but I always, always welcome any tips from people who know more about this than I do. I try to do this respectfully, but if there are any misinterpretations or misunderstandings you see in my content, please tell me! I am always willing and wanting to learn more about this. Also, the cultures the various holos are meant to represent, any tips about any of that would be loved and appreciated and I will work on incorporating them into my portrayal.
The same goes for the psychological conditions Cris faces. I do not have depression or PTSD myself but, like with Cris's culture, I have been doing a lot of research into it and I have several friends who do have depression and/or PTSD and have had their help with it, but I am always ready and willing to learn more if anyone has any tips.
Basic Information:
- Independent Roleplay and Askblog for Cristóbal “Cris” Rios from Star Trek: Picard
- Multi-Ship (will ship with more than one character/muse); Muse is pansexual-panromantic and ambiamorous (can be in either monoamorous/monogamus or polyamorous relationships)
- Multi-Verse (each interaction takes place in a separate universe from interactions with other muses unless otherwise stated, but each interaction with the same muse will take place in the same universe as each other unless otherwise stated - note that I may sometimes mention things that have happened in other threads to other muses but that doesn’t mean that everything about that interaction or interactions in that verse have to be canon)
- 18+ years of roleplaying experience
- 12+ years of text-based online roleplaying experience.
- 8+ years of Tumblr roleplaying experience.
- I have known Star Trek all my life and have seen every episode and movie
- Mun and Muse are 21+ but No Smut, I have specific lines I won't cross and we can fade-to-black/skip to the next morning when we reach them; talk to me about it if you want more information! I will let you know if/when it comes to that. I don't mind smut drabbles/fics being written by partners/friends about our ships, though
Interactions:
- Interactions with canon characters (characters from Star Trek: Picard and other Star Treks, The Orville is practically canon)
- Crossovers (interactions with characters from other fandoms whether they are Canon, OC or AU/Canon Divergent)
- OCs (characters created by the mun playing them, including Star Trek OCs, Orville OCs, multi-fandom OCs, fandomless OCs, and crossover OCs from non-Star Trek fandoms)
- AUs and canon-divergents (characters from any fandom that have been changed in one or more ways, including canon alternate realities)
- Multi-muse blogs (blogs that roleplay more than one character)
- Multiples (blogs that play the same character that I’ve already interacted with a different version of)
- Mainblogs and Sideblogs. It doesn’t matter if your blog is a mainblog or a sideblog. If you like or send asks not on anon on your RP sideblog’s mainblog, tell me what your sideblog is!
Roleplay:Following:
- I follow pretty much any RP blog that follows me. I will also follow some personal and non-RP blogs too, mostly fandom blogs (Star Trek and Sci-Fi primarily)
- That being said, we don’t have to be following each other to interact. But if we do start to interact, I’ll most likely follow you anyway (you don’t have to follow me back).
- Anyone can follow me
- I rarely unfollow people. Most of the time if I unfollowed you it was an accident or a glitch on Tumblr.
- This is the mainblog for my sideblogs @boundswordasqalankhkai, Elnor from Star Trek: Picard; @photonsbefree, Doc from Star Trek: Voyager and various other Star Trek holograms; @bookergrudge, Cleveland Booker from Star Trek: Discovery season 3+; and @captainmercer, Captain Ed Mercer from The Orville; and the primarily sci-fi multimuse blog @startosteerherby.
Thread Type:
- Ask memes
- Sentence starter threads, ask meme threads, and ask threads
- Gif or icon threads (though that one might not always be available since I’m on mobile a lot)
- Text post threads. The majority of interactions will be text posts or ask threads
- I don’t consistently format my posts. I don’t format much at all, really. But you can format yours however you want.
- Tumblr's been weird about cutting posts lately but I won't let it get too long.
Thread Length and Style:
- One-liner text posts, including with gifs or icons if desired
- Gif or icon threads
- Semi-paras (2-4 lines)
- Paras (5+ lines in one paragraph)
- Multi-Paras (multiple paragraph interactions, usually with paragraphs of 5+ lines but could be multiple paragraphs of 2-4 lines, too, especially if dialogue-heavy)
- I’m willing to try “novella”-style (many paragraphs per post, I would say 10+?) interactions if desired
- I generally do third-person past-tense narrative-style, especially for paras and multi-paras, but I can and occasionally do use third-person present-tense script-style especially for crack threads or less serious interactions (usually one-liners).
- I am willing to roleplay on Discord! Also, I prefer to roleplay through text posts or ask threads but through individual asks or IM are acceptable if I have to.
Plotting:
- I generally like to go with the flow and not plot things out, but I’m totally willing to plot things out, too.
- Wing it - No plotting, just doing!
- Set the Scene - Plot small details like the beginning situation and maybe location. I do this often too. It’s usually “Wing It” or “Set the Scene”
- Vaguely Plotted - Plot vague plot developments
- Completely Plotted - Plan the whole thing out
- Askbox, IMs and Discord are open for plotting purposes. I love discussing headcanons or “what if” situations on IMs and many “what ifs” can be actually played out.
Genres:
- Obviously this is sci-fi because Star Trek but supernatural and magical elements and characters are totally welcome here
- Violence and dark themes accepted.
- Away Missions
- Answering Distress Calls
- Shore Leave
- Equipment Malfunction (holodeck, transporter, turbolift, etc. all those Star Trek trope faves)
- First Contact
- Time Travel
- Alternate Universe
- Diplomatic Mission
- Exploration
- Repairs/Refueling/Re-supplying/etc. at a Space Station or trade vessel, etc.
- Romance
- Fluff
- Angst
- Tragedy
- Domestic
- Family
- Conversational
- No Smut
Shipping and Family:
- I pretty much autoship most of my RP characters with Anna @manenimittliv, my friend’s OC, but like I've said, this blog is multiship; this ship is polyam with Anna being married to Cris and all the holos
- My current main ship is with @ltfreckles; This ship is polyamorous. Paris is bonded to Cris, and married to Cris and all the holos
- Ship with chemistry
- He is pansexual, and open to polyamorous ships, including a polycule with a partner dating/married to Cris and all the holos (currently have two ships like that, from the two mentioned above). The holos are not guaranteed to develop feelings for anyone/everyone that Cris is dating/has feelings for, but given the closeness in their personalities, it's definitely possible.
- No smut; I have found that my boundaries are nothing involving any detailed descriptions below the waist, although mentions of being naked is fine. Kissing and groping is fine, even fairly detailed descriptions, it's mostly the actual sex part that needs to be skipped over. Mun is aroace and sex-averse (muse is Not).
- Yes fade-to-black and mornings-after
- Shipping is pretty open, not very selective; if you can see it, I can probably see it too/will see it if we give it a shot! Note that he has a lot of issues, so ships may have to be mostly casual or it’ll break through his “don’t get attached” thing and if that’s the case he’s super protective because he can’t lose someone else
- Don’t force a ship
- Sending in or responding to shippy sentence starters or askmemes is not forcing a ship and is welcomed unless stated otherwise!
- I love family threads and totally don't mind our ships having kids!
- Also other family members. I won’t give him any active family member NPCs unless they’re established in the show but OCs and AUs who want to be his family are totally welcome, just talk to me about it!; Found family is a given.
Askblog:
- IC Asks for the Muse from a mun or a personal/fandom/non-RP blog
- IC Asks from other Muses
- OOC Asks for the Mun from another mun or a personal/fandom/non-RP blog about the Mun (I’ll of course be selective on what I answer) or about the Muse or Star Trek or anything
- OOC Asks for the Mun from a Muse about the Mun (I’ll of course be selective on what I answer) or about the Muse or Star Trek or anything
- Anon asks for the Muse
- Anon asks for the Mun about the Mun (I’ll of course be selective on what I answer) or about the Muse or Star Trek or anything
- M!A Friendly
- Can plot through the askbox
- Can do memes, sentence starters and threads through the askbox and ask threads. Those ask threads can be turned into text post threads if desired but it’s not required. If it’s not turned into a text-post thread I’ll try to cut posts but no promises (I’m usually pretty good at this).
IMs:
- Willing to RP, plan or talk through IMs. Still No Smut, though.
What I won’t do:
- Respond to inappropriate asks or anon hate
- Smut. I use fade-to-black or mornings-after if it comes to that.
What you are allowed and encouraged to do:
- Send me asks IC and OOC
- Send me sentence starters
- Send me anons IC and OOC
- Send me M!As
- Send me ask memes and sentence starters

Captain Cristóbal Lorenzo Rios

About RiosRED ALERT: Spoilers for Star Trek: Picard Season 1
(A Mix of Canon and Headcanon will be found in this bio)
Basic InformationName: Cristóbal Lorenzo Rios
- (Lorenzo as the Spanish version of the name Lawrence, the name the character who would be developed into Rios was originally named)
Nickname(s): Cris (by Raffi, that’s also how he introduced himself to Picard, “Cris Rios”)
- Often called Rios or Captain Rios by most people
- His holograms call him Captain, Captain Rios, Sir, and occasionally some pet names or (mostly) joking insults, usually in Spanish
Rank: CO of a civilian ship
- Commander (Starfleet, medical discharge)
- Starfleet CO in S2 timeline.
Station: Captain and Pilot of the civilian starship La Sirena, an unregistered warp-capable Kaplan F17 Speed Freighter
- Former Starfleet XO (first officer) and briefly Acting Captain of the Starfleet heavy cruiser USS Ibn Mājid, NCC-75710, though you won’t find anything about it in Starfleet’s records
- Captain of the USS Stargazer, NCC-82893, a Sagan-class starship in 2401 in the S2 timeline.
- Previously a pilot/“fly boy” before going up in rank
- Veteran of the Dominion War when he was an ensign straight out of the academy - Briefly served on a Klingon ship during the war when the Starfleet vessel he was assigned to was destroyed and rescued by a Klingon bird of prey.
Starfleet Serial Number: SC-850-705
Languages:
Spanish: Chilean dialect, fluent, mother-tongue. Although Federation Standard is the language he speaks in most, his Spanish is used frequently, in personal settings, around others who speak Spanish (including his holograms and especially with Emmet, who speaks almost exclusively in Spanish), and when he’s distressed or otherwise compromised. In informal settings, even around those who don’t speak Spanish he will use some Spanish words and terms here or there, particularly either curse words or terms of endearment (or both), and a light version of what is colloquially known as Spanglish.
English: Federation Standard, fluent, slight Chilean Spanish accent. He uses this language professionally despite the prevalence of the universal translator, and primarily with people who don’t speak Spanish. As it is the official language of Starfleet, it has wide-spread use even among aliens, especially those in the Federation, and it is the language most aliens will learn if they are going to learn a human language, which is common. In informal settings he will use some Spanish words and a combination of Spanish and English colloquially known as Spanglish.
Latin and Ancient Greek: Classical studies has taught him quite a bit of Latin and Greek. It helps that Spanish is a Romance language and has its roots in Latin.
Indigenous Chilean language: - Growing up, Cris spent a lot of time with the continued cultural preservation efforts in the early 23rd century, particularly of indigenous languages of Earth, with his grandmother.
Mapuche: The indigenous Chilean language Rios knows the most is the Mapuche language, also known as Mapuzugun and Mapudungu, particularly of the Huilliche dialect as some of his ancestors were from Chiloé island and Los Ríos region. His abuela (chuchu, maternal grandmother in Mapuche) told him Mapuche legends growing up, his favorite one being of the ghost ship Caleuche and La Sirena Chilota. The duality and contradictions of the legends surrounding the ghost ship, one direction light and one direction dark, where contradictory stories claimed that Caleuche was either a force for good, a safe haven for drowned sailors, or a force for evil, enslaving lost souls, always intrigued him. Mapuche is a language isolate that does not seem to have a connection with other indigenous languages.
Alien languages: - Rios likes to turn the Universal Translator off and listen to people speak whichever language they’re comfortable speaking in, and as such, has picked up pieces of many languages. He has a tendency to date aliens, and whenever he does, he likes to learn at least some of their native language, which adds to that.
Vulcan: Conversational, literate. As one of the founding species of the Federation that has approximately equal power as humanity, and more advanced technology, and as the first alien species to make official first contact with humanity and therefore is humanity’s longest and strongest allyship, Vulcan is one of the more common languages for humans (and anyone in the Federation) to learn, although many don’t bother that much with other languages since the widespread use of the universal translator. Cris learned the basics of it in the Academy, as it is a required language.
Klingon: Conversational and literate. Cris briefly served on a Klingon ship during the Dominion War after the Starfleet ship he was serving on as an ensign was destroyed by the Breen, and the crew were rescued by a nearby Klingon ship, who took most of the crew back to the nearest allies space station. It would take a while for Starfleet to send a replacement ship to retrieve the crew, as most ships were busy fighting the war, so the Klingons agreed to let some of the human crew continue the fight on their ship, if they were brave enough, could keep up and make themselves useful. Cris was one of the few who went with the Klingons to continue fighting in the war. Because of this, he picked up a lot more of the Klingon language than the very basics he’d known previously (which was just a few words here or there). Most of this he learned from his two exes on the ship, who were his roommates who agreed to work with the human soldiers who transferred to the ship.
Bajoran: Conversational. Cris has spent quite a bit of time on Deep Space 9 in Bajoran space when visiting his academy friend Nog and Nog’s uncle, Quark. He was also close to Kira Nerys while he was still in Starfleet. He’s seen her briefly after he was discharged but he fell out of contact with most people then. She is who he learned most of his Bajoran from, as well as from Leeta, Nog’s mother-in-law.
Ferengi: Functional for trades without use of a translator, also plenty of curse words. He works with plenty of Non-Federation worlds and Ferengi are common people to deal with in his line of work. He originally learned from his friend Nog in the academy, and since from Quark, Brunt, and Nog’s father, the Grand Nagus himself, Grand Nagus Rom.
Other Languages: Rihan, commonly known as Romulan, became an important language to know when dealing with Non-Federation planets after the Romulan supernova once the Romulans became more widespread as refugees. In my most common verse he is married and bonded to a half-human, half-Romulan named Paris, he is fluent in it through the telepathic bond that functions the same as Vulcan bonds. Other languages he knows a little of are Andorian and Tellarite, from being the other two founding species of the Federation (and the Andorian one from an ex), as well as Trill (also from an ex).
Identifying Features: Tattoo of a mermaid on his left bicep, mustache and slightly graying beard, dark, short, messy hair that tends to curl.
Eye color: Brown
Skin tone: Tan
Ethnicity/Nationality: Latino, Chilean
Physical Appearance:Body type: Athletic, muscular
Voice: Slight Chilean Spanish accent, can be casual, calm and relaxing, but always authoritative
Dominant hand: Ambidextrous
Posture: Relaxed but not slack; a conscious choice. He tries to seem casual but there is always the military man underneath, the Starfleet Captain who never was but would have been; when he’s not paying attention or is distressed the facade drops and he automatically takes a stricter military stance.
Scars: Several scars on his chest, arms and legs.
- His first scar is on the back of his left leg from falling off the rigging on his family’s sailing ship when he was 7.
- A small, jagged line on the left side of his neck from a jellyfish sting when he was 8 (based on the fact that I got stung by a jellyfish on my neck when I was 6 or 7; it didn’t scar, but I think scars from jellyfish stings look cool)
- Scar on his leg from a fútbol injury at the Academy when he suffered a comminuted compound fracture of the tibia and fibula in his right leg (based on a soccer injury my dad suffered when in the military which happens to have coincided with and be the same injury as the American football player Joe Theismann got that ended his career, if you want to know more about it), it didn’t fully heal when he told them to leave the scar. It acts up once in a while.
- Several scars from his time during the Dominion War – Not ones he purposefully shows off, though he doesn’t hide them. Any of his “war stories” are usually not from the war itself. He’s not ashamed of his time as a soldier but doesn’t think of actions during war as something to brag about.
- Scar on his right arm from a bat’leth competition.
- Scar on his chest near his left shoulder from a shuttle crash during an ion storm.
- Scar on his left side from falling scrap during an attack.
- Scar on his right shoulder from tritanium shrapnel.
- Small scar on his ribs on his left side
- Scar on his right arm that is either near his shoulder or his elbow, it actually migrated between episodes 3 and 6
- Circular-ish burn mark(?) on his ribs on his right side
- Probably others
Tattoos: Tattoo of a mermaid on his left bicep
Personality:Cris is introverted to the point of reclusiveness, particularly after he got PTSD. Described by his best friend as having a “broody existentialist spaceman routine,” he likes to brood in space reading philosophy paper books, particularly existentialist philosophy. He is also interested in language, history, and culture. His own Chilean heritage is important to him, and he speaks both Federation Standard (English) and Spanish fluently, occasionally cursing in Spanish and using Chilean slang, and he chooses to not use the Universal Translator on his ship. He is fascinated by mermaids and the sea, hence the name of his ship, La Sirena (The Mermaid in Spanish). He is a talented pilot and was well on his way to becoming a Starfleet captain before he was discharged from Starfleet because of his PTSD. He has depression and night terrors connected to his trauma. He can be reckless with his own life and well-being, enjoying smoking cigars and drinking alcohol to excess to distract himself. Despite his rough exterior, that he puts on to prevent people from getting close, he cares for others deeply and has a strong nurturing instinct for anyone who is in pain.Family Life:Place of Birth: Caracas, Venezuela (based on Santiago Cabrera)
Hometown: Santiago, Chile
Siblings: No biological (as far as he knows – could have some paternal half-siblings, since he hasn’t had contact with his father since he was a young child)
- Raffi (and Seven, found family sister and sister’s girlfriend)
- Elnor (found family brother)
- T’Lura Vandermeer | @empathyvslogic’s OC, who is Vandermeer’s adopted daughter)
- In Paribal-verse (Cris/Paris), Agnes would be his adoptive sister-in-law as well as Elnor his adoptive brother-in-law since Paris considers them like siblings
Parents: He was very close with his mother. She used to sing to him the Spanish lullaby “Arroz con Leche” and he now uses it as a failsafe on board La Sirena to be able to take back control of his ship if someone locks him out. He used to watch some old (and new) telenovelas with her as a kid. He still makes some meals that were her recipes. She was encouraging of his adventurous nature but sometimes nervous about his reckless behavior (including his desire to keep scars even as a kid)
- @talvenhenki has the headcanon that Rios is half-Danish on his father’s side, who is related to H.C. Andersen and I like this headcanon. His father left him and his mother when Rios was young and he barely remembers his father at all. The only memory he has of him was his father taking them sailing on his sailing ship Den Lille Havfrue, named after Hans Christian Andersen’s tale The Little Mermaid, also what Rios’s ship La Sirena is named after (credit to @talvenhenki). His first mermaid statue was from his father and it’s the only thing he has from him.
- Rios saw Alonzo Vandermeer as a father-figure and would call him “pops” in his head. He seems to associate Picard with Vandermeer, so he might end up that way too. Alonzo had a husband named Konrad that Rios hasn’t seen since he informed him of Alonzo’s suicide
- Picard kind of reminds him of Vandermeer and they are connected through Rios's captain's previous captain Marta Batanides being Picard's good friend from the Academy
Other family: The Holo Squad; Emil, Enoch, Steward/Mr. Hospitality, Emmet, Ian (don’t tell them)
- Raffi’s son Gabriel, daughter-in-law Pel, and their daughter
Other notes: He has at least two scars from his childhood; one he got from falling off the rigging of his family’s boat (not Den Lille Havfrue, one that belonged to his mother’s side of the family) when he was 7, and the other he got while swimming in the ocean and a jellyfish stung him on the neck. He was captain of his fútbol team in school and continued to play it recreationally for the rest of his life.

HistoryChildhood and Adolescence:Rios was always introverted, socially, he only had a few close friends and besides them, would only spend time with his fútbol teammates, as he had a strong sense of loyalty to his team that would later translate into loyalty to a crew when he’s a Starfleet officer. He preferred to stay in and read books (sometimes paper books even at a young age), usually on history, culture and philosophy (focusing on philosophy more when he’s older), as well as literature, but he always had an adventurous spirit and was most at home when reenacting sailing life from the 1700s with his mother or camping in the patagonian wilderness with his mother and grandparents. He never really knew his dad, but his only memory of him is of the family going sailing on the ocean, and a mermaid figurine was the only thing he had from him. Early on this made him have a troubled relationship with the sea, but as his mother continued to expose him to the ocean after her husband left, he warmed up to it, and now it’s full of nostalgia and fond memories, only slightly being associated with his father. A young Rios found it amusing and vaguely satisfying to read Kierkegaard’s early criticism of the fairytale author H.C. Andersen, who his father was a descendant of. If the fact that his father was a Starfleet officer influenced Cris’s decision to apply to the academy, he has never admitted to it.The Academy:Although the sea was filled with nostalgia, the stars were filled with wonder and possibility. He turned away from the call of the sea in favor of the unknown of the Final Frontier. Rios was in the command track at Starfleet. He was a young, passionate flyboy who was very dedicated to Starfleet’s ideals, and took the physical training and military aspects of Starfleet very seriously, even though he did not join Starfleet to be a soldier, he joined it for the adventure and discovery and preferred missions of exploration and diplomacy. He particularly enjoyed his advanced philosophy classes at the Academy and wrote at least one paper on Surak, the founder of modern Vulcan philosophy. He was in the same year as Nog, the first Ferengi to join Starfleet, and they were friends, and continued to be friends after they graduated. He was fairly close with his Engineering teacher, Kara Jon, a joined Trill who also taught a few of his history classes when they needed someone to fill in (one of the Jon symbiont’s previous hosts was a history teacher so it didn’t take long for her to get permission when they really needed someone last-minute). He sustained a serious injury during a fútbol game at the academy, a comminuted compound fracture of the tibia and fibula in his right leg. Now, they have the technology to heal it completely, but Rios’ wanted to keep the scar, and as a result, they were unable to heal it fully and it would continue to act up once in a while. The Dominion WarCris fought towards the end of the Dominion War straight out of the academy. It wasn’t how he wanted to start his Starfleet career, but they needed everyone they could get. There wasn’t a choice, this was a major war and it definitely embedded the military training from the academy deep into his personality. His ship was fighting near Breen space, when the ship was permanently disabled. A Klingon ship picked up their distress call and rescued them, taking them to the nearest starbase, DS10. Some of the crew waited there for Starfleet to send a ship to get them, but since everyone was out fighting the war, it would be a while before they could get there. Some still wanted to fight, Rios included, so the Klingons who rescued them offered for some to temporarily serve on their ship during the war so they could still be useful, respecting the warrior spirit of not giving up and going back into battle. Rios got close to two Klingons in particular, who were brothers. During this time, on the starbase, one of the brothers were trying to get Cris to eat Gagh, when the other brother got in a fight with a group of nausicaans, dragging Cris and his brother into the fight with him. They were grateful to Cris for fighting with them, Cris got them to agree to never try to make him eat Gagh again as a way to repay him for helping them in the fight. He got a scar from this fight. During this time Cris also trained with and participated in a Bat’leth competition. He also got a scar from that. Unfortunately, during this time, both of his grandparents (on his mother’s side) passed away and he was too far away to be there for his mother. She understood, but it was devastating to both of them to be separated during this time, and not being able to be there for his mother or his grandparents while his grandparents were dying is something Cris will always regret.Early StarfleetAfter the Dominion War, Cris spent some time with his mother. Fighting in the Dominion War was not the best start to a Starfleet career, but finally he was able to do what he actually signed up to do; explore the galaxy and meet new species. He was an extremely talented pilot for several ships, and met Commander and eventually Captain Alonzo Vandermeer, who became his mentor. Vandermeer was there for Cris when his mother got sick, and because he couldn’t be there for her when her parents were dying, he made absolutely certain he would be there for her during this time. Vandermeer helped him through it. She didn’t die until several years after she got sick, but he was able to be there for her towards the end, and she met Vandermeer, who attended her funeral with Cris.Ibn MajidVandermeer became captain of the USS Ibn Majid, NCC-75710 (named after a medieval Arabic navigator, Ahmad ibn Mājid), with Cris, after being promoted to Commander, as his XO. Ibn Majid’s mission was to explore deep space in unknown sectors of the Alpha and Beta quadrants. The last thing that ever happened on the Ibn Majid started out as a regular first contact when they found a ship with two individuals on it, Jana and Beautiful Flower. They informed Starfleet of the first contact and invited them onto the ship. They got to know them, enough for Cris to notice Jana’s enjoyment of mint ice cream with French fries, and Beautiful Flower drew a picture of them that he gave to Cris. But Vandermeer received a Black Flag directive from the head of Starfleet Security, Commodore Oh, telling them they need to kill their two guests and cover it up or they would destroy the Ibn Majid and everyone on board. Vandermeer followed these orders, and told Rios they had to cover it up, but when Rios saw what he had done, they got into a fight. Rios refused to help and their fight ended with Vandermeer killing himself with his phaser. In a panic, Cris cleaned up the mess, covered up the murder of their guests by beaming them out into space, because if he didn’t finish what Vandermeer had started, everyone else would die, too. He informed the crew that the captain killed himself and took on the role of acting captain to bring them back into Federation space. Starfleet ended their mission early, looked into Vandermeer’s death (in a suspiciously short investigation), declared it a suicide, and deleted all records of the Ibn Majid. The crew were all assigned to different ships after that, but Cris was traumatized, and shortly after he was discharged from Starfleet for Post-Traumatic Dysphoria.La SirenaStarfleet did the bare minimum for him they could do. He didn’t get enough counseling, they didn’t even try and he suspects Starfleet Security had something to do with it, since he’s the only one who truly knows what happened on the Ibn Majid who is still alive. They wanted him gone. He didn’t put up a fight when they discharged him, especially when it was vaguely implied that they could set him up to take the fall for this entire thing if he gave them any trouble. He left Starfleet, cut everyone he knew out of his life and bought his own ship, the beautiful La Sirena, an unregistered, warp-capable Kaplan F17 Speed Freighter. She’s a small ship, with holographic controls that make her fly like a dream, and the Emergency Hologram Basic Installation Package makes it capable for Cris to operate her alone, even though they are not actually meant to be used so often. He accidentally hit the self-scan option, making all of the EHs modeled off of him, and he never bothered to change it. He isolates himself, staying in space for most of the time for nearly a decade, almost always on the move. She is the closest thing he knows to home since he lost Vandermeer. He knew he would not be able to integrate into civilian life. He started taking jobs transporting cargo and occasionally people. He met Raffi, and they bonded over their bitterness at Starfleet, although they never went into details about how Starfleet screwed them over. They became close, supporting each other through tough times and never pushing the other to open up before they’re ready. Raffi also got and ran security checks on some of Cris’s clients for him.Picard’s MissionRaffi calls him asking for a favor, to take Admiral Jean-Luc Picard (retired) on some rescue mission he had planned. Reluctantly, Cris agreed, for an “expensive” fee. Eventually they formed a crew on this mission, consisting of Picard, Dr. Agnes Jurati, the leading expert on cybernetics, Elnor, a young Romulan raised and trained by warrior nuns, Raffi, Cris, and for a little bit Seven of Nine, an xB who is a part of the Fenris Rangers who helps them on a mission on FreeCloud to find Bruce Maddox. Maddox dies (killed by Agnes, though they don’t know that at the time), but they get the information they needed to find Soji, a young synth who is the sister of a synth, Dahj, who found Picard but was killed by Romulans, which is what started the whole mission. The get Soji from the Artifact, a damaged Borg cube the Romulans along with some Federation scientists have been doing research on and reclaiming Borg drones, trying to integrate them back into society. Picard meets an old friend, Hugh, on the Artifact, who is an xB he helped rescue when he was the captain of the Enterprise. Elnor goes onto the Artifact to help Picard, Soji and Hugh, and Soji and Picard take a device to get away from the Tal Shiar that sends them to Nepenthe, where Deanna Troi-Riker, her husband Will Riker, and their daughter Kestra keep them safe. Elnor and Hugh stay on the Artifact to help the xBs and fight the Tal Shiar, and the rest of the crew on La Sirena head to Nepenthe to pick up Picard and Soji. When they do, Cris realizes that Soji looks identical to Jana (except that Jana had gold skin), and they realize that Cris ran into a couple of synths ten years ago on the Ibn Majid, and that Commodore Oh (who showed Agnes the “Admonition” that shows synths destroying all organic life) is a Romulan spy working with a Romulan anti-synth group called the Zhat Vash intent on destroying synthetic life to prevent them from destroying organic life. They take Soji to the planet Coppelius, where Bruce Maddox and Altan Inigo Soong created a village of synths after the Federation banned synthetics (something they discovered was arranged by the Zhat Vash). Elnor calls Seven for help, and they follow them to Coppelius in the Artifact. The Romulans also go to Coppelius. The crew meet the village of synths, Altan Soong, and Sutra, who is the identical sister of Jana. Sutra sees the Admonition in Agnes’s head from a Vulcan mind-meld and realizes that it’s not a warning showing synths destroying organics, but an invitation to synths from a higher group of synths who said they will come rescue them from their organic creators if they build a beacon to find them. Sutra tries to build it but is stopped by Soong, then Soji starts it up again as the Romulans close in, in an attempt to save her people, but Riker shows up with a fleet of Starfleet ships to fight the Romulans and Picard talks Soji out of calling the higher synths. Picard dies, but Agnes and Soong transfer his consciousness into a synthetic body called a golem. To see his active and inactive threads and relationships, click here!

Emil (Emergency Medical Hologram)

Position: Medical – CMO/EMH
Type: Modified EMH Mark VI
Personality:Pre-Programmed:
- Lewis Zimmerman, Voyager’s EMH and the other EMH Generations: He inherited his love of Opera from Zimmerman and the EMH Mark I, he’s very stressed like the EMH Mark II.
- Long-term Medical Holographic Test Program 1/Dr. Bashir: Besides the British accent, Emil does have some residual elements from the coding reused in his own programming from the LMH prototype. They all have a bit of coding from the LMH, since he was designed to be longer-lasting than the EMHs and they figured if these are going to be put into smaller ships, they’ll probably need to use their EHs more often, due to smaller staff. The Emergency Hologram Basic Installation is not, however, actually meant to replace an entire crew. In addition to the longevity taken from the LMH prototype, some residual personality traits from Dr. Bashir remain in the EMH. He knows probably more than is safe, and definitely more than is legal, about genetic engineering due to Bashir’s influence (this is not known to the programmers). He also enjoys several hobbies inherited from Bashir, such as a skill at darts and a proclivity for spy holonovels. Despite his protesting (and he would never admit this, at least not anywhere that Rios could hear), Emil actually does enjoy coming up with inventive and often low-tech ways of treating Rios due to his aversion to modern medical technology (for some godforsaken reason), due to the challenge, the same reason Bashir wanted to be stationed on DS9 to practice what he called “frontier medicine.” It makes him a better doctor in some ways.
Inherited from Rios: Both Emil and Mr. Hospitality inherited the “wanting to be in control” trait from Rios and he is very particular about everything in Sickbay. Everything has to be stored properly (“regulation Starfleet order” even though he’s not Starfleet). He’s also caring and considerate, like Rios is to anyone but the holos once they get past his defensive wall (which apparently isn’t hard to do). He’s a great listener and, a trait also inherited by Enoch, he cares too much. The Emergency Hologram Basic Installation Packages
After four generations of Emergency Medical Holograms, and with the development of the Emergency Command Hologram extension to the EMH created by the USS Voyager’s own EMH Mark I, they began research on developing other types of emergency holograms. The first basic installation included the EMH Mark V and the Mark Is of the Emergency Navigational, Tactical and Engineering holograms. By 2399, they are on the fourth basic installation package, which has the EMH Mark VIII, the ENH, ETSH, and EEH Marks IV, and the EHH Mark III.
The Second Emergency Hologram Basic Installation Package
The second basic installation was the first one released to civilian ships and included coding from what was originally going to be the Longterm Medical Hologram to increase longevity so the holomatrices wouldn’t keep degrading and the civilian ships didn’t have to always keep up-to-date on the latest models; they would only get it if they wanted to. The second basic installation package included: EMH Mark VI, ENH, EEH and ETSH (Tactical with a Security extension) Marks II, and the then-new EHH (Emergency Hospitality Hologram) Mark I.

Enoch (Emergency Navigational Hologram)

Position: Navigation – ENH
Type: Modified ENH Mark II
Personality:Pre-Programmed: Enoch is programmed with a lot of Starfleet Optimism and a love of exploration. He loves the stars, loves learning about new planets, loves getting new information on a previously-unknown sector of space, which makes sense to have for a navigational hologram, even though he is meant to only be used in emergencies. Rios did use to have that part of him, although he was never as excitable as Enoch, he’s always been more reserved and introverted even before he basically became a space hermit.Personality Traits inherited from Rios: Enoch is the embodiment of the “Cares Too Much” personality trait Rios has but doesn’t want to show. It’s one of the main reasons he yells at him a lot but also one of the reasons he likes him so much, because Rios has a complicated relationship with that part of himself. It hurts. A lot. So he doesn’t want it to show but it’s also kind of his best feature and he does know that, but it’s gotten him hurt so much that he’s just not wanting to deal with it. But more than that, Rios doesn’t want someone to take care of him. He’ll take care of other people, but doesn’t want and doesn’t think he deserves it back, so he snaps when Enoch tries to do that to him. The protective part of Rios can also be found in Enoch, too.The Emergency Hologram Basic Installation Packages

Steward/Mr. Hospitality
(Emergency Hospitality Hologram)

Position: Morale Officer/Host – EHH
Type: Modified EHH Mark I
Personality:Pre-Programmed: Neelix and Vic Fontaine: When Voyager returned to the Alpha Quadrant, they docked at DS9. The crew met Vic Fontaine and were very interested in him given their personal experiences with sentient and self-aware holograms, primarily the Doctor and Tom Paris’s Fair Haven holoprogram. Neelix took a particular interest in Vic Fontaine, and when Doc was approved to be on the team to design the Emergency Holograms to go into the Basic Installation, Neelix suggested one for morale, inspired by his friend Vic Fontaine, so they made the Emergency Hospitality Hologram.Personality Traits Inherited from Rios: Poor Steward. I love him so much. The Hospitality Hologram no one wants - doesn’t even fully fit in with the other holos but he tries so hard. Too hard. Steward is the part of Rios that just really needs other people that he’s just been denying so much these past 10 years. He does not want to acknowledge his need for other people so he and Steward do not get along. Steward also has the need for control, he’s the part of Rios that cares about how other people see him. Rios does care about that, a lot actually. It’s just that he wants people to see him as someone who doesn’t care. Steward is perpetually keeping things clean and in order, perhaps a projection of when Rios had to cover up what happened on the Ibn Majid. The Emergency Hologram Basic Installation Packages

Emmet
(Emergency Tactical and Security Hologram)

Position: Tactical Officer/Chief of Security – ETSH
Type: Modified ETH Mark II with a Security extension
Personality:Personality Traits inherited from Rios: Emmet. Beautiful sleepy Emmet. Emmet is that person I was just talking about that Rios wants to be perceived as. The personification of the “I don’t give a damn” attitude Rios tries to project but ultimately fails at, if you get to know him at all. Because he’s not just Emmet. He’s all the others, too, which makes his inner Emmet not as good as Emmet’s. He’s also the part of Rios that just needs a nap but who hasn’t gotten to have any because of his PTSD nightmares. It’s depression napping. Let Emmet sleep because Rios can’t. He’s also the part of Rios that thrives on danger. The two of them were living their best lives fighting that Romulan bird of prey honestly.
And it makes sense that Emmet, Rios’ “I don’t give a damn” personality will clash with Steward, his “I give too many damns” personality.

Ian (Emergency Engineering Hologram)

Position: Chief Engineer – EEH
Type: Modified EEH Mark II
Personality:
Pre-Programmed: A part of the inspiration for Ian’s personality is from the famous engineer of the USS Enterprise 1701, Montgomery Scott, commonly referred to as “Scotty.”
Personality Traits inherited from Rios: Ian is definitely the part of Rios that cares about his ship. No one better scratch la Sirena, Ian is not having any of that. Ian is kind, but he does not like to get involved in the ship’s drama. He has the least amount of problems with Rios because he has the least amount of non-professional contact with him, and mostly talks to him over the comms. They work together like a well-oiled machine, most of the time. They both care about the ship immensely and any problems Rios isn’t able to take care of himself, Ian does, which makes Rios favorable towards him. The exception being when the ship is out-of-commission and Rios gets impatient.

Personality:
Rios is loyal to a fault, but not to any cause, to people. There's nothing he won't do for the people he cares about. He's not sadistic but he is ruthless. After Vandermeer left him, he stayed in the Terran rebellion, but stayed alone primarily receiving orders remotely, most contact he has had would be with enemies. He has moments of paranoia due to his upbringing and his trauma, but he tries to fight against it. He wants to be soft, to have someone to care about, but it’s difficult for him to trust. He fights with the Terran Empire to free those enslaved, and to keep himself from returning. He would rather be left alone, but circumstances require him to fight. There are those who want to restore the Terran Empire, but he doesn’t really believe in Terran Supremacy, and would prefer peace over conquering.
History:
Cris grew up enslaved by the Klingon/Cardassian alliance. He chose to associate himself with the Klingon side because he preferred their brutality over the mind games and manipulation of the Cardassians. At least he knows what to expect from the Klingons. They’re much more straightforward. He avoided Cardassians as much as he could until he got assigned to a Klingon ship.
Life with the Klingons wasn’t easy. They’re brutal and he’s had some… unfortunate sexual experiences with them—well, one in particular, who claimed him, but his skill as a fighter and a pilot (as well as his refusal to just passively let himself be used like most of their Terran slaves) earned him as close to what could be considered respect as a slave could get. Cris doesn’t consider himself purely a victim of his captor. A lot of the time it was non-consensual, but not always. He did what he had to do to survive and he made the most out of his situation. His master was often a protector of him, too, and this is how Cris justifies it to himself. Cris lost his eye from an angry Cardassian, and his master killed that Cardassian for mutilating him. He proved he could still be useful to the Klingons, though, even though that could have been the end of him for losing some of his effectiveness. And then the Terran rebellion, started by Sisko when Cris was a teenager, started to grow, and the Terran rebels attacked the Klingon vessel Cris served on. The Terrans won – most of the Klingons onboard were slaughtered so they could free the Terran slaves. Cris was going to kill his captor but spared him at the last second, and he’s probably still out there if he didn’t commit ritual suicide (or die some other way). He still has no idea why he didn’t kill him. Was it some twisted sense of loyalty, for the times he’d protected him, spared him from a worse life? Was it fear, or guilt? Mercy? Did he think having to live with this defeat would be a fate worse than death to a Klingon, and therefore some form of vengeance to make him live with this instead of sending him to Sto-Vo-Kor (because he would have died in battle; an honorable death)? He found himself completely in awe of Vandermeer, who expected nothing out of Cris but who wanted to help him in his cause anyway, so he recruited him into the Imperial Starfleet. He quickly became Vandermeer’s right hand. Vandermeer was a good man, although he did want to restore the Terran Empire to its former place of power, although not through enslavement. He had a strong belief in his morals, which included not harming innocents and protecting those who rely on you. Cris admired him so much, his conviction and his strength, and wanted to have his dedication, but the only thing Cris could ever bring himself to care about with as much dedication was protecting those close to him, which at this point was only Vandermeer. They met with two individuals named Jana and Beautiful Flower, wanting to form an alliance with them, but the Romulans were also after them. The Romulans vastly outgunned the Ibn Majid, and said they would spare those on the ship if they killed their guests. Cris was the one to carry out those orders, without hesitation or remorse. The Romulans destroyed the ibn Majid anyway and Cris made sure that he and Vandermeer survived by knocking Vandermeer out and dragging him to a shuttle because he knew they wouldn't have time to save anyone else but Vandermeer would want to save his crew and it would get him killed. This betrayal of Vandermeer's trust broke their relationship. Vandermeer wouldn't forgive him for killing their guests and for allowing the rest of the ship to die, making sure Vandermeer was incapable of doing anything to protect those under his command, but Cris would never regret what he did because at least Vandermeer is still alive even if everyone else is dead. Even if Vandermeer never wanted to talk to him again. At least he was safe. After that, he got La Sirena and started receiving and carrying out his orders remotely, avoiding contact with other Terrans and even allies, not wanting to get close to someone again only to lose them for saving their life.
